While the other islands are more developed it is the quiet and natural attractions that set Shaw apart.

  • Bicycling is ideal on Shaw. Families can cycle safely down quiet country roads on their way to the general store for ice cream.
  • Kayaking is fantastic in the San Juans. The beach at Shaw Island Park at Indian Cove is the perfect launch site. This beach is steps away from the property for sale.
  • Beach combing and hiking. The University of Washington wildlife preserve is perfect for both.
  • Fishing and crabbing are excellent in the San Juans. Put your crab pot out in the morning and enjoy fresh crab and a glass of wine at dinner time.
  • Island hopping — four star restaurants, shops, art galleries, museums are all minutes away by boat or ferry. Walk on passengers travel free to other islands.
  • Whale watching in the San Juans is spectacular. An encounter with the local “Orcas” or killer whales is an experience that stays with you for life.
  • The community center is the social hub. There are scheduled classes, plays and concerts along with lectures and church services. Don’t miss the local “market” days.

Tree lined roads, open pasture and hidden coves are yours to explore. One person said it best; “I saw three cars today and two of them were the same car”. Don’t forget to return the wave from those you pass by.
